I've tried several times to get Windows XP Service Pack 3 to install. Every time I do, it fails with an error message "access denied". Whaddya mean "access denied"? This is my computer isn't it? I'm the admin, aren't I? Well, it turns out that some software programs lock their registry keys, which the installer for SP3 politely observes. Personally, I think it should blow the locks off like a DEA agent, but that's me. Anyway, there's a fix for this on Microsoft's site here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377 Here's a list of the things SP3 fixes: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946480/ Recommended, but be advised, the script takes a long time to run. Go get coffee. No, wait, go get breakfast (and a paper). Walk the dog... |
